Smoke Ventilation
ADS were contracted to provide a bespoke smoke ventilation system to the new Prison on the outskirts of Wrexham in North Wales. The scheme consisted of a bespoke mechanical smoke ventilation system to four House Blocks and a specialist CASU unit. ADS were sub-contracted to Crown House Technologies who are part of the Main Contractor on site - Laing O'Rourke.
For each block, ADS had to provide a Computational Fluid Dymanic (CFD) Analysis to demonstrate that the smoke ventilation system would operate to a suitable standard. This was achieved through a mechanical extract system with natural inlet air that does not fall within the current British Standards. Therefore any bespoke system has to be proved prior to construction that it will work in an emergency situation. ADS then had to commission and demonstrate the system working in line with the CFD Analysis through a smoke test.
