Smoke Ventilation
ADS designed, supplied, installed and commissioned the smoke ventilation systems at IKEA's latest store in Exeter.
Following ADS Ltd's successful installations for IKEA in Sheffield, Reading, Dublin, Edinburgh MPU and Doncaster Distribution Centre (to name a few!), ADS were successful in our tender for the Exeter store.
ADS' extensive experience of IKEA's store layouts made ADS the perfect choice for the first Devon Store. Working closely with our client Briggs & Forrester along with the main contractor McLaughlin & Harvey, ADS delivered another successful installation. Similar to previous IKEA stores, we provided a mixture of mechanical ventilation systems using smoke rated fans and ductwork along with natural ventilation solutions using louvred ventilators on the facade and the roof level. To control the smoke movement we provided fixed smoke curtains to create smoke zones and a control system for both the 24v natural smoke ventilation and three phase control for the mechanical solutions.
Similar to IKEA Sheffield, the store was built on top of a car park. This presents problems with fume ventilation when car engines are running within this space. Our solution included a CFD analysis to demonstrate a mechanical solution using impulse fans to push car fumes from one side of the building to the open facades. This system is fully automated by CO detectors strategically positioned throughout the car park.
