Environmental Ventilation
ADS worked alongside both the main contractor and the M&E contractor to provide the natural ventilation units at Durham University's Business School.
We used our Class A louvre turrets complete with insulated dampers, splitters, access panels, boost fans, insulated sleeves and internal decorative cover grilles to natuarlly ventilate the new feature corridors. Due to the south facing full height glazed nature of the corridors, heat gain was a potential problem. The ventilation turrets allow hot air to escape through the turrets with the aid of a boost fan. Dependent upon the weather conditions, the turrets can also be used as a windcatcher to increase the fresh air within the corridors. We also provided numerous standard Class A turrets to provide general ventilation into the plantroom areas.
In addition to the natural ventilation scheme, ADS also provided numerous louvre screens on the roof level. One of which was provided with a weighted 'big foot' system to support the louvre in a free standing application. This was due to the nature of the original 1960's construction, and the problems associated with penetrating the roof to fix back to the structure.
